Cricket: Challenging first day for Crosby in European campaign

Manx side targeting better fortunes on day two (13 March)

Yesterday was a challenging day for Crosby Cricket Club on the opening day of their European Cricket League campaign out in Spain.

The Manx side suffered defeat in their first two Group F contests, first with a 78-run loss to Spanish side Pak I Care Badalona.

Crosby had been set a target of 156-3 by their opposition but could only respond with 78-8 over the full ten overs - the stand-out batting displays for Crosby came from Rich Tarr (24) and Chris Langford (18).

After that, the Island squad once again were called into field first against Estonian side Tallin Stallions who would set an imperious score of 221-0 thanks to an unbeaten pairing of Ghulam Abbas Butt (108) and Faraaz Abbas (96).

Once into bat - despite a much-improved display which included seeing Carl Hartmann register 71 runs and Rich Tarr end play on 39 not out - Crosby's total of 151-6 saw them miss out overall by 70 runs.

Crosby have two more games at Cartama Oval in Malaga today, starting with a showdown against Guernsey side, Independents, which gets underway at 2.30pm local time.

That will be followed by a meeting with Donaustadt of Austria in their final group game at 6.30pm local time.
