Cricket: Isle of Man women win Continental Cup 

Manx team beat Greece in final whilst Barnett named player of tournament

The Isle of Man Women's T20 squad have been crowned winners of the 2023 ECN Continental Cup in Romania.

The Manx side took victory in the final of the competition yesterday (6 August) beating Greece by nine wickets.

The Isle of Man chose to field first, Greece set them a target 65-9 after the full 20 overs.

The Island squad produced a disciplined bowling display with impressive showings from the likes of Bliss Murtagh (2-5), Dani Murphy (1-4) and Alanya Thorpe (1-10).

Into bat and the Isle of Man required just six overs to beat that benchmark, finishing with a score of 68-1.

Isle of Man vice-captain, Lucy Barnett shone once again with the bat finishing on 42 not out - opening partner, Kim Carney, managed 17 before being dismissed with Ellan Cleator helping wrap up the contest with five off eight balls.

As well as securing the winners trophy, Barnett also took the accolade of player of the tournament - she took 173 runs in total without being dismissed along with six wickets, two catches and a run out.

After three days of competition at the event, the Isle of Man finished with a record of four wins from four.

As of yesterday (6 August), the team's performances meant they officially entered the women's ICC rankings for the first time in 36th place out of 71 teams in total.
