Cronkbourne strengthen grip on premiership

Cronkbourne have tightened their grip on the Standard Bank Premiership.

Yesterday they beat Valkyres, to lead the table by 20 points with only four games left.

Batting first, Valkyres made a slow but steady start to reach 38 for 2 from the first 20 overs.

Then Alex Stokoe and Phil Richardson got amongst the wickets and the side slumped to 53 for 6.

Aurangzeb Ahteshamuddin and Abdul Khan came to the rescue with a good stand of 58 runs.

Both perished in the final overs with Khan top scoring on 37 as the side ended on 111 for 8.

Once again opener Dave Smith took control for Cronkbourne.

He smashed a quick 32 before being trapped by Andy Coulson.

Adam McAuley took over and stroked a fine 50 to see his team home by nine wickets.

Castletown dominated their Premiership game against Ramsey.

Deciding to bat first, the northern club struggled against the Town attack.

Andrew Ronan was in top form with 4 -26 and there were two wickets each for Richard Jackson, Daniel Laughlin and Ben Cregeen.

Ramsey were dismissed for 79 and then faced a very aggressive Gareth Morris.

He crashed 41 not out as the Town sped to victory in only eight overs.

Ollie Webster took the prize scalp of Wicus Wessels for 18, but could not stop Castletown moving into third place in the table.
