Manxman replaced by Mark Christian in Glasgow
Mark Cavendish has withdrawn from the European Championships in Glasgow, British Cycling has confirmed.
The decision comes after advice from the Manxman's medical team, in what has been an 'intensive period' of recovery from both injury and illness.
An 'incredibly disappointed' Cavendish was due to represent Team GB in the Men's Road Race on Sunday.
The sprinter will be replaced by fellow Manxman Mark Christian.
Cavendish said 'it has been a challenging few months in terms of aiming to sufficiently recover from some unfortunate injuries in time to compete'.
'I've been advised that at this stage the best thing is for me to withdraw from Sunday’s race'.
'I wish the entire team all the very best for the race and I'll be cheering on with the rest of the country'.
