Improving Vagabonds beaten at home
It’s two home wins out of two for Douglas in North West 1.
That’s after they beat Northwich 36-24 at Port-e-Chee to bounce back from last week’s defeat.
They led 24-12 at half-time following tries from Glyn Hooson-Owen, Sam Games and Nick Brooker, plus three conversions and a penalty from Bryn Snellgrove.
Brooker ran in his second after the break, which Snellgrove again converted, before flying machine Adam Boyd rounded the day off for Douglas.
A spirited Vagabonds were beaten 45-7 at home by Marple in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.
The performance showed some green shoots of encouragement for the hosts.
Marple were 21-0 up after 23 minutes with tries from Ryan Gordon, Daniel Mead and Andy King, all converted by Paul Haworth.
Vagas pulled one back when Jonathan Riley went in and, with Tommy Rowley’s conversion, it was 21-7.
Gordon’s second left Marple 28-7 in front at the break and, although Vagas threatened for 20 minutes or so in the second period, Marple went onto crack the home defence with further tries from Darren David and Jonty Ashton, plus Gordon’s hat trick.
