Football: Prem sides with chance to close in on leaders this weekend

Southern rivals still battling for Division 2 supremacy

With the current Canada Life Men's Premier League leaders not in action this weekend, the teams beneath them will be out to seize the chance to close the gap at the top during the latest Isle of Man football fixtures.

Unbeaten Corinthians have a six-point advantage at the summit of the top-flight but are on a rest week this time out, meaning multiple challengers will get the opportunity to eat into that deficit.

Among Saturday's encounters, Onchan - one point off Corinthians in second - face a potentially tough trip to Laxey in fourth who are just one point further back and have two games in hand on their visitors.

Meanwhile, Peel in third - also one point off second and with two games in hand in Onchan - will host St Mary's who, in turn, are just two points away from second spot down in sixth.

Elsewhere, the top two in Ardern & Druggan Ltd. Division 2 - Castletown and Colby in first and second respectively - are separated by just one point ahead of the weekend.

Colby face the prospect of a southern derby at Malew whilst Castletown are due to make the journey north to take on third-placed Ramsey Youth Centre & Old Boys (Rycob.).

On Sunday (16 November), a triple-header of matches await at The Bowl in Douglas in the latest phase of the Canada Life Women's Floodlit Cup.

Douglas Royal take on Malew; Peel face Rushen United and Corinthians will meet Union Mills.
