Peel's Keith Gerrard finished in a fine sixth place at the Husky Classic Indoor track meeting in Seattle, Washington.
Running for the University of New-Mexico, he finished in a time of 14 minutes, 19.27 seconds in the 5,000 metres - just six seconds outside his best.
A week of injury had curtailed Keith's training and he had only decided to run the day before.
The Husky Classic is one of the biggest and best indoor track meetings in America with a total of 1,300 athletes competing over the two days.
Keith's next competition is an indoor 5,000m and 3,000m double at a Conference meeting next week at altitude in Albuquerque.
