Goals galore on opening day

There were goals galore out west as Laxey launched their title bid in a seven goal thriller on Saturday.

A brace each from new signing Mark Wolfenden and Ashley Webster sealed a 4-3 victory over Peel at Douglas Road.

Peel, with Rick Holden back at the helm, had taken an early lead through Marc Kelly before Laxey took control.

A Kelly penalty and a late Daniel Bell goal pulled Peel back into it, although ultimately in vain.

If that was the game of the day, there was also excitement down south as 2010 champions Rushen and Corinthians shared six goals.

Jamie Stoy gave Corinthians the lead before the home side equalised through Williams.

Danny Gerrard and Lewis Thornton gave Corinthians a two goal cushion only for Rushen to rescue a point, courtesy of Aaron Hawley and Chris Shimmin.

St Mary’s opened their Canada Life Premier League campaign with a hard fought 2-0 success over newly promoted Marown.

Debutant Steve Whitley and Steve Priestnal were the marksmen.

The other newly promoted side Union Mills were also beaten, 5-1 at home by Old Boys.

Lee Gartland (two), Callum Stewart and Ian Kirk were among their scorers.

Steve Quine scored for Union Mills.

St John’s showed they’ll be a top half force with Jamie Moffitt, Andy Glover, Nick Hurt and Michael Peace on target in a 4-0 win over Ramsey.
