Golfer and equestrian star take top prizes at IoM Sports Awards

Two awards for marathon fundraiser Christian Varley

Golfer Tom Gandy and equestrian star Yasmin Ingham took the top prizes at this year's Isle of Man Sports Awards.

The pair were named Isle of Man sportsman and sportswoman of the year for their achievements in 2020.

Eleven prizes were handed out at last night's ceremony, at the Villa Marina, with 2012 Olympic gold medal winner Peter Kennaugh attending as guest of honour.

Christian Varley, who ran 19 marathons in 19 days to raise funds for charity during last year's lockdown, was named Isle of Man Sports Ambassador and is also the first recipient of the Leonie Cooil Courage & Inspiration Award:

Under 21 Sportsman of the Year: Jed Etchells

Under 21 Sportswoman of the Year: Sinead Cox

Veteran Sportsperson of the Year: Sarah Webster

Sports Administrator of the Year: Paul Jones

Sports Leader of the Year: Cassidy Pizzey
