Government scrutiny has 'some way to go'

A long-serving MHK says the Manx government is scrutinised by parliament more now than ever before.

Onchan member Peter Karran, who has been an MHK since 1985 and is seeking re-election in September, believes there is 'still some way to go'.

However, he is welcoming as 'a step in the the right direction', the pending appointments of an auditor general, to ensure public funds are properly managed, and an ombudsman, to resolve complaints about the delivery of public services (listen to audio file below):

Peter Karran is one of six candidates who have so far declared their intention to contest the three seats in Onchan.

The others are fellow Liberal Vannin candidate Zac Hall, sitting MHK David Quirk, former trade unionist James Corrin, and local commissioners June Kelly and Brian Stowell.
