Governor to Host Games Reception

The Lieutenant Governor Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks and Lady Haddacks are hosting a reception at Government House this evening for the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games team.

33 athletes will represent the island at next month's event in Delhi, India.

It's the largest Manx squad ever sent with six sports being tackled - Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics and Shooting.

The Isle of Man has won eight medals since first taking part in 1958 in Cardiff - 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze.

Four years ago in Melbourne, cyclist Mark Cavendish won gold in the Men's Track Scratch race and shooters Trevor Boyles and David Walton won bronze in the Men’s Team Clay Pigeon Trap competition.
