Manx side face Guildford in Nottingham this weekend
Excitement is building for one of the Isle of Man's national junior hockey teams as they prepare to take part in an England Hockey Championship final this weekend.
The Isle of Man Under-14 Boys will head to Nottingham on Saturday (11 April) to face Guildford in the final of the EH Under-14 Boys Tier 2 Knockout Championship.
Since starting in the competition back in October, the team has taken five wins in the tournament to reach this stage.
Coach, Niamh Goddard, says whatever happens this weekend, it's another statement of how strong junior hockey on the Island can be:
The road to this weekend's showdown saw the Island squad take a convincing 7-1 victory away at Preston in October 2025.
That was followed by a 6-1 success in November last year over Sandbach before a shoot-out win over Deesside Ramblers at the start of February 2026.
Into the last eight, the Manx team continued to impress and progressed again on 1 March, earning a narrow 3-2 win over North Stafford.
They then booked their place in this weekend's final just over three weeks later with a shoot-out victory over Oxford Hawks.
More generally over the last three years, the Isle of Man has had two other national teams in EH Championships finals.
The IoM Under-16 Boys went on to win the EH Under-16 Boys Tier 2 Plate in April 2023 whilst the Isle of Man Senior Ladies B squad were runners-up in the EH Women's Tier 3 Plate in May last year, losing out to Sunbury & Walton Hawks on a shoot-out.
