Holders launch defence in style

The big guns flexed their muscles in the hockey cups on Saturday.

Valkyrs A began their defence of the Wi-Manx Men’s Cup with an 11-2 rout of Castletown A.

Hat-tricks from Greg Miller and Chris Thomas, doubles from Vic Fearns and Neil Jacobs and a goal from Juan Colley caused the damage.

Kieran Callister scored both for Town.

There were also goals galore for league champions Bacchas A in a 16-0 demolition of Valkyrs B.

Jamie Brown (four), Andy Whiting (three), Alex Bell (three), Karl Moore (three), Jonny Callow (two) and Andrew Vernon-Browne were the men on target.

The tie of the round saw Vikings A run out 5-2 winners over Bacchas B.

Andy Harding (two), Conor Byrne, Alex Birch and Steve Underwood grabbed the goals with promising youngster Josh Riordan netting a brace for Bacchas.

The big tie of the women’s Cup saw Bacchas A defeat Castletown A 5-3, courtesy of Sam Franklin (two), Laura Atkinson and two own goals.

Elaine Wiseman (two) and Glesni Witt replied for Town.

Holders Vikings A were far too strong for Bacchas B.

They ran out 9-1 winners, thanks to Kirsty Cooper (two), Katie Errock, Zoe Carney, Kim Carney, Sara Blackman, Hayley Crowe, Breehsa Foxton and Kirsty Bowley.

Anne Harrison replied for Bacchas.

Christina Kermeen hit four as Ramsey A out eight past Castletown B without reply.

Vicky Garner (two), Julie Chesteron and Amy Stoutt netted the others.

Valkyrs A saw off their B team 5-0 after goals from Kerry Beattie (two), Andrea Kneen, Emma Miller and Imogen Manning.
