The first sod of earth was cut at the site of the Isle of Man Institute of Sport building this afternoon.
The building will be next to the Athletics track grandstand at the National Sports Centre in Douglas.
The two-storey structure will house a strength and conditioning gym, a performance lab for fitness testing and video analysis, a consulting room for physiotherapy and medical treatment, and a sports education suite for seminars and coaching briefings.
The facility is designed to help elite athletes and Isle of Man representative teams.
