IOM Special Olympics football squad heads to Gibraltar

Team to compete in Gareth Cowin Memorial Tournament

The Isle of Man Special Olympics football team heads to Gibraltar today to compete in an annual competition.

The Gareth Cowin Memorial Tournament was set up five years ago following the death of the popular local Special Olympics footballer.

Over the weekend, the squad will take on Algeciras, and host side Gibraltar, who won the event last year.

The tournament was set up on the basis that who ever won it, would host it.

However, it's been agreed that regardless of who is crowned champion this year, the tournament will be brought back to home soil in 2021.

IOMFA Chief Executive, Frank Stennett, is travelling with the team as a coach:
