Swimming and Gymnastics take bulk of the honours

Day two of the Orkney Island Games may have been a good start for Team Isle of Man, but day three was even better.

There were 21 medals - six golds, seven silvers and eight bronzes - for the Island in six different events, and three new Island Game records.

Gymnastics brought home 10 medals; Harry Eyres contributed with three individual medals, collecting the only gold with a strong performance in the high bar.

Leon Martin, Ewan McIlraith, Fraser McKenna, Ainé Matthews and Elise Pease all won honours, while the women's team came second in the team 4-Piece.

In the pool, the men's team won gold and set a new games record in the 4x50m Medley Relay with a time of 1:39:10 - over a second faster than Jersey's time set in 2015.

Harry Robinson also came first for the Island in the 50m Backstroke, while Alexander Turnbull, Lauren Dennett and Laura Kinley also contributed to the medals tally.

Onto the track and after stunning performances by Christa Cain and Regan Corrin on the evening of 13 July, Corrin Leeming made sure not to miss out on the top prizes in the men's 10,000m race.

Leeming smashed the field to win by over two minutes and set a new record in the process which now means the Isle of Man holds the men and women's 10,000m record after Christa's win the day before.

Cycling also received places on the top step as Tyler Hannay won the men's individual time trial, with the squad was also handed the gold for the team award.

Last but not least archery and badminton added one silver and bronze to the tally.

Elsewhere the women's football team came back after a penalty defeat to Gozo in the opening group game as they dismantled Froya 6-0.

The men's team meanwhile added to their opening round victory with a 10-1 victory, also over the Norwegian Island.

Day four will see the Isle of Man in action of nine out of the 12 events, including athletics, swimming and sailing.
