More gold for Manx Gymnasts

Another days wonderful competition was enjoyed by all at the Lloyds TSB sponsored 2007 Inter-Island gymnastics competition at Manx Gymnastics Centre of Excellence on Wednesday.

The Men & Junior Men opened the days’ action this time in the Floor & Vault team competition. The Manx boys’ team of Colin Furner, Jamie Stott, Anand Patel & Charlie Marshall scored highest on both pieces to take the gold form Jersey in Silver.
The Men’s team were pressed hard by a very strong team from the Faroe Islands, but Alex & Adam Hedges, Joe Smith and Daniel Everest came through with a victory of just over a mark from the Faroes with Jersey coming home third.

The middle of the day saw the junior girls teams take to the apparatus for the set four piece competition. The Bermuda team were expected to be very strong here, and so it proved with Bermudians Morgan Beckles and Rosie Finnegan scooping gold and silver, both taking an individual apparatus gold along the way. The Isle of Man’s Grace Harrison came in third overall, having taken two apparatus golds along the way. In a tight finish only 0.1 of a mark separated 2nd , 3rd & 4th with the IOM’s Rebecca Johnson just being edged out of the medals in 4th.

In the afternoon a huge field took to the pieces in the Senior Women 4 piece. Again the Bermuda team set the benchmark. Two apparatus wins helped Kaisey Griffith of Bermuda to the overall individual championship, less than half a mark ahead of Olivia Curran of the Isle of Man a close second. Olivia performed consistently, with apparatus gold on floor. Caitlyn Mello of Bermuda dipped out in third thanks to a lowly finish on vault.

All of the Isle of Man teams performed well against very strong opposition.

We now look forward to the blue riband FIG competitions on Friday. The Men start early at around 9am, with the women following from around 1230. Please come along & watch what will be a great day’s action.
