New insurance quote secured for Northern Ireland road racing

North West 200 will go ahead this year, organisers confirm

A new insurance quote has been secured for road racing events in Northern Ireland, including the North West 200, to take place this year.

The update was announced by the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland Ulster Centre (MCUI UC) with a letter to supporters from the organisation's chairman, John Dillon.

As a result, all clubs will now be able to promote their events for 2023.

The Coleraine and District Motor Club has already confirmed the North West 200 will go ahead as planned from 7-13 May this year.

Mr Dillon says this has been made possible thanks to donations made through a recent crowdfunding campaign as well as work by MCUI UC member, Stephen Lyons, with insurers.

The MCUI UC is thanking promoting clubs and those who donated to the crowdfunding initiative.

All road racing in Northern Ireland had previously been cancelled back in February due to rising insurance premiums.
