
Keith Gerrard has opened his track season at the Mount Sac Relays in Walnut, California with a new Manx record of 13 minutes 50.06 seconds for the 5,000 metres.
The Martin Bullock Manxsport-sponsored athlete finished in second place, slicing over eight seconds off his previous best time, which was set at the same venue last year.
The race was won in 13 minutes 37 seconds by Mauricio Gonzalaz (Colombia) with Keith gaining runner-up spot after a two-way contest with American Christo Landry in the final 2,000 metres.
The Manx Sports Aid and RBS scholarship recipient heads to The Payton Jordan Invitation on April 29, where he is looking to improve his 10,000 metres personal best ahead of the summer’s championships.
