Northern athletes turn on the style

Michelle Turner won the national walking race for postal workers on Sunday.

The Ramsey athlete, national champion at 10 kilometres last year, was competing in the novel event for the first time.

Chairman of Isle of Man Post, MHK Graham Cregeen, started what is the sole surviving uniform race-walking event in the British Isles.

Meanwhile, another northern athlete, Nikki Boyde won the Liverpool Half Marathon.

The Northern Athletics Club runner won the women's race in a time of one hour 26 minutes and 16 seconds.

Other notable performances among Islanders included a ninth place finish for Ed Gumbley, while Gail Griffiths was the fourth woman home and best in the over-45s category.
