Ozga the hero as Royal win cup

Royal celebrate a record seventh Floodlit Cup success

Record seventh success for Royal

Douglas Royal have sealed a record seventh Women’s Floodlit Cup.

They beat arch rivals Corinthians 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out yesterday (Sunday) to take the honours at the Bowl.

Goalkeeper Rose Ozga came back to haunt her former club with three saves in the shoot-out before she scored the decisive spot-kick herself.

The club had drawn 2-2 with Royal fighting back from 2-0 down.

Corinthians looked in control in the first half after captain Jade Burden gave her side a one goal advantage before the break.

Burden was on target after five minutes after the restart, doubling their lead in the Regency Travel competition.

However, Royal pressed forward and Rebecca Cole started the comeback with a strike on 54 minutes before the winger was on target again 15 minutes later.

Neither side could find a way through in the remaining normal and extra-time and the match went to penalties and sudden death where Ozga proved the hero.
