Priestnal inspires super Saints

Youth Centre hit Governor's for six

Stephen Priestnal – for so long the St Mary’s talisman – was their hero yet again on Saturday as they all but ended Rushen United’s outside Canada Life Premier League title hopes.

The livewire frontman scored twice as the Saints came from behind to see off the southerners 3-1 at the Bowl.

It was a terrific win for Alex Harrison’s side against opponents who beat them 5-3 at Croit Lowey just a month ago.

It looked like Rushen could be on course for a double when the in-form Mike Williams fired them in front 11 minutes after re-start.

However, the spirited Saints hit back within five minutes as full-back Tommy Johnson rifled home an equaliser.

Within another five minutes it was the turn of Priestnal to take centre stage as he produced a trademark finish, superbly curling the ball home from the edge of the area.

And with the clock ticking down, Aaron Hawley was adjudged to have handled a Jordan Cooper shot in the penalty area and ice-cool Priestnal converted from the  spot to seal an impressive victory.

A dominant first half from Ramsey Youth Centre crushed Governors Athletic in JCK Division Two.

The match was over by the break as the hosts opened up a 5-0 advantage.

They added one more after the break to record a 6-0 triumph, led by a Jason Smith hat-trick and goals from Matty Boyd, Brad Birchall and Martyn Murphy.
