Ramsey move closer to title

Ramsey moved closer to retaining the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield with a 41-17 win away at Douglas B, which cemented their place at the top of the table.

First half tries from Craig Long and Danny Turner (two), plus two conversions from scrum half Shaun Wyllie rocketed Ramsey into the lead.

Douglas hit back before half time though and, after tries from Lloyd Jones and Matt Hawkins, plus a conversion from Andy Jones, they trailed by just seven points 12-19 at half time.

A try and conversion from Wyllie put Ramsey 26-12 ahead early in the second half before Douglas hit back again through Seb Jeanneau to keep his team in it.

Ramsey then hit the accelerator in the closing stages and a try, conversion and penalty from Wyllie, plus a try from Aneurin Pritchard, made the game safe.

Ramsey B almost made it a double club success.

The northerners’ second team led Southern Nomads 3-0 at Mooragh Park until the closing stages but it wasn’t to be and Nomads skipper Dave Parkes ploughed over for the winning score with five minutes to go.

Nomads ran out 5-3 winners.

Emerging Nomads recorded their first win of the season at King Williams College when they beat Castletown 12-8.

Nomads trailed 8-5 at half time after an Alex Stephenson try and a Gary Stephenson penalty put the visitors in front.

Josh Samuels pulled one back for Nomads to keep them in it.

And Nomads took control in the second half with a try from Justin Meechan, which he converted himself, proving the difference between the sides.
