Rugby: Douglas back on the road at Bowdon

Vagabonds travel to face league contenders Garstang

After just losing out by five points against Birkenhead Park last Saturday Douglas hit the road to Bowden this week in Regional 2 North West. Bowdon is in south-west Manchester near Atrincham and not a million miles away from Manchester Airport. They currently sit in fifth place in the standings with 6 wins from 8 outings and will be a tough test for Douglas. The Manx side beat Bowdon twice last season so the match will hold no fear for them however Bowdon are looking like a much tougher side this time round and have a 100% home record.

Vagas meet league contenders

Vagabonds travel to Garstang in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire and have a big task in front of them. Garstang are second in the table and have won 6 from 6 so far and have the meanest defence. They’re only in second by virtue of missing out on a couple of bonus points. After Port Sunlight beat Old Bedians last Saturday Vagas slipped into bottom spot and need to start picking up points before the midfield section of the table pulls away from them.

Ravenscroft Manx Shield

New leaders Ramsey Reds head to Castletown’s Poulsom Park this weekend and without being disrespectful to Castletown, are likely to pick up maximum points. Town lost against Nomads Greens two weeks ago and despite beating the Eastern Barbarians, they are hovering in the lower half of the standings. Town have a few new names on the teamsheet this season too with Elliot Burnett catching the eye with his goal kicking. They will however need all they have to topple Matthew Meechan’s Ramsey side from their lofty perch.

In the final game of the round Western Vikings host Eastern Barbarians at QE2. Vikings remain winless thus far but have plenty of firepower for the unwary visitor. The Barbarians showed some early promise but have been inconsistent ever since and currently showing no signs of changing that.
