Rugby: Douglas eyeing a result against Altrincham Kersal

Ravenscroft Manx Shield returns with three games this week

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas’ poor start in Regional 2 North West could end this Saturday when Atrincham Kersal visit Port-e-Chee. Kersal have won just one from five with their only victory coming against Broughton Park just a fortnight ago. Douglas are winless from their five and really need to start picking up points. They’re currently four adrift at the bottom of the table. Simon Hoddinott’s return to the pack adds some real steel to the forwards, and Luke Hyland’s boot will always be a good source of points. They have the personnel for this, and just need the resolve.

Vagabonds' latest tie called off this weekend

Vagabonds had been due to host fellow strugglers in the Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire League, Old Bedians, at Ballafletcher this weekend.

However, it's been confirmed this week the fixture won't be going ahead due to Old Bedians being unable to fulfil the fixture

Ravenscroft Manx Shield Returns

After a rest week the Manx Shield returns this week with three fixtures. Current leaders Ramsey Blues host Castletown, Ramsey Reds travel to the Eastern Barbarians and Western Vikings host Nomads Whites.

The Blues will face a tough test against Town who beat the Barbarians last time out. Town perhaps may not suit the bigger pitch at Mooragh Park and Blues skipper Connor Casey will be looking to exploit that. Owen Moroney and Connor Taylor bagged two each for Town last time out and will want to continue that form.

Ramsey’s Reds head for Port-e-Chee to face the Barbarians. Matthew Meechan’s Reds lost the intra club game against the Blues last time out and will want a good performance. The Barbarians can blow hot and cold and its therefore difficult to predict how they may go on the day.

In the final match at QE2 the winless Vikings will look for points against the Whites. Vikings are no doubt missing the influential Jack Goodwin who has a non rugby back injury and is out long term. The Whites by contrast could go top if they win and the Blues loose so there’s a real incentive for them.
