Rugby: Douglas looking for points at Winnington Park

Ravenscroft Manx Shield also returns this weekend

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas hit the road this week with a trip to Winnington Park in Regional North West 2. They’re boosted by an emphatic win against Broughton Park a fortnight ago which saw them climb from bottom to tenth and be replaced at the foot of the table by Winnington Park. Both sides are two wins from ten and both have scored 188 points. Douglas just edge it defensively though conceding 309 to Park’s 383.

Douglas’ selections have been fairly consistent of late and they welcomed back Harry Hewson last time out and he celebrated his return with a try too. The ground at Winnington should be firm enough for the Douglas back line to show its pace and this is a great chance for them to pick up some away points and edge away from the danger zone.

Vagabonds away at league leaders

Vagas travel to Hoylake in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire for what will be a difficult game for them. Hoylake are top and unbeaten. Their only dropped points came when they drew 17-17 with second place Garstang. Vagas are bottom of the standings and desperately need some points. They’re currently eight points adrift of the relegation zone and could fall further behind this week. They’ve won just one from eight and are averaging just eight points per match compared to Hoylake’s forty point average.

Vagas ladies away at Broughton Park

Vagas Ladies are on the road too this weekend in Womens NC1 North West with a game at Broughton Park. Vagas are currently fourth but a win away could lift them as high as second. Broughton are however just two points adrift of Vagas and a win could take them to third. A last minute penalty gave Chester all the points at Ballafletcher last week and Vagas will be hoping for better luck this time around.

Ravenscroft Manx Shield returns

After a rest week the Manx Shield returns.

Nomads Greens host Western Vikings at Ballakilley Park. Vikings only recently bagged their first win of the campaign (on the field at least) and were impressive with the ball in hand. Vikings will have an eye on Nomads’ fourth place and the fact that Nomads have two teams in action this week
