Rugby: Douglas' season ends in defeat

Ramsey B and Emerging Nomads reach Manx Plate final

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas’ season in North One West ended with a home defeat against Broughton Park with the visitors claiming maximum points in a 14-46 win.

The result leaves Douglas in thirteenth place in the standings but with no relegation this season their place in North One West is secure.

Sure Vagabonds claim place in Cup Final

Vagabonds beat Southern Nomads 32-20 at Ballakilley to set up a Ravenscroft Manx Cup Final against Ramsey in a fortnight’s time. The game was a proper cup tie with the lead changing hands several times.

Liam Savage got the opener for Nomads but his try was cancelled out almost immediately when Hope Chirengwa levelled for Vagas. Tom Callister’s try restored the Nomads lead and was converted by Mark Young. Connor Coulthard pulled one back for Vagas to leave Nomads 12-10 ahead at the break. Luca Simmons and Mark Young then traded penalties early in the second half and with just over ten to play, Nomads clung onto a 15-13 lead. Chirengwa intercepted for his second to put Vagas ahead only for Tom Callister to grab his second to put Nomads 20-18 in front. Ryan de la Harpe then went over for Vagas and Simmons’ conversion saw them leading 25-20 with four to play. As Nomads flung everything into attack, Cam Findlay found a gap and slammed in to seal the result with seconds remaining and Simmons’ conversion iced the Vagabonds cake.

Ramsey B will face Emerging Nomads in Manx Plate final

Ramsey beat Western Vikings 50-7 in the Groundhog game at the Mooragh Park. Ramsey led 14-0 at half time after tries from Danny Howard and Jake Richmond with Fintan Cummins converting both. Nathan Robson went over early in the second half with Cummins’ boot again on target. In the final twenty minutes Ramsey ran away with it. Magnus Black crossed twice as did Josh Corteen with Abuu Migoda grabbing one in between and Robson converting. In among all that Vikings snatched a consolation score from prop Josh Hockney which skipper Ed Knight converted.

Emerging Nomads came out 50-14 winners against Vagabonds Hornets at Ballafletcher. There were two tries apiece for Mike Craine, Alex Long, Will Taisia and Gaz Watt with Alex Long adding five conversions.
