Rugby: Vagabonds Ladies extend lead atop league table

Douglas side win without conceding

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas draw at Winnington Park

While it wasn’t the win they wanted Douglas picked up three very useful points in a 34-34 draw with Winnington Park in Regional 2 North West.

In form wing Sam McCord bagged his second hat trick on the bounce with today’s threesome backing up the three he scored against Burnage in his last outing.

Craig Martin weighed in with two and Matty Wood added three penalties.

Douglas travel to Firwood Waterloo next Saturday and with Waterloo flying near the top of the table it’s likely to be a tricky trip.

Vagabonds Ladies go clear

Vagas beat Aldwinians 38-0 away from home to extend their early lead in Womens NC2 North West.

They led 19-0 at half time after tries from Becky Dunne, Bea O’Neill and Isla Curphey, plus two Sammie Macdonald conversions.

Curphey picked up her second just after the interval. Maylyn Campbell then picked up her first of the season and Tilly Jackson rounded off then performance with a late try. Macdonald converted two of the three.

Vagas now have a week off before the Hop tu Naa visit of Macclesfield to Ballafletcher.

Ramsey take the honours in Manx Cup

Ramsey put in a strong performance to beat Vagabonds 47-7 in the Hartford Homes Manx Cup.

Because of their hectic League schedule Vagas rested a number of players for this game and Ramsey showed no mercy, although two very late converted tries gave the scoreboard a look which perhaps didn’t do justice to Vagas’ efforts.

Ramsey led 19-0 at half time after tries from Matt Meechan, Ffinlo Corkill and Jake Richmond with Scott Kneale converting two.

Luke Ward got Ramsey’s fourth just after half time and Kneale’s conversion stretched the lead to 26-0.

Vagas then hit back with a Ben Roberts try, converted by Brendan Kelly.

Ward bagged his second on the hour to effectively make the game safe before tries from Josh Corteen and Loki Reader in the last two minutes iced the Ramsey cake.
