Snellgrove hat-trick makes in nine out of nine

A hat-trick from stand-in skipper Bryn Snellgrove helped Douglas maintain their 100 per cent record in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two as they beat Southport 33-7 at Port-e-Chee.

Douglas led 14-0 at half-time thanks to a try from Snellgrove and a penalty try which was converted by Snellgrove.

Glyn Hooson-Owen smashed his way over for a try in the second half which was again converted by Snellgrove who finished off his one man demolition of the visitors with two more tries to clinch his hat-trick and the bonus point.

Vagabonds returned from Moore with just a losing bonus point.

Tries from Mark McGreal and skipper Mark Howarth, both converted by Johnny Beckley who also kicked a penalty, had put Vagas into a promising position, but Moore battled back into the game and clung on for the win.

Vagas picked up a losing bonus point but will be disappointed not to have come away with more.

Despite targeting the Marple game as a possible win, Ramsey came home with nothing as they crashed to a 37-22 defeat.

Last season’s top try scorer Ali Trace returned for Ramsey and picked up a try and there were also tries for Tynan Pritchard and Mark Oldfield, plus a penalty and two conversions from Fintan Cummins.

The fourth try and the crucial bonus point proved elusive however.
