Sweeney hat trick inspires Vikings

Vagabonds Ladies beaten at home

A first half hat-trick from captain Liam Sweeney set Western Vikings on their way to a 54-10 win at Ramsey B in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.

Ollie Creasey and Conor Caley had struck to give Vikings an early 14-0 lead after Ryan Burke converted both.

Sweeney then struck, his three interspersed with an Alex Gibson try.

With Burke missing just one conversion, the lead was out to 40-0.

Greg Radcliffe replied just before half-time to leave it 5-40 at the break.

In the second half Spud Watterson ran in Ramsey’s second as they started to get into the game but tries from Gibson and Danny Howard killed off any hope of a revival.

After an eight week layoff, Vagabonds faced leaders Didsbury Toc H in Women’s NC North West One and Didsbury showed why they are top of the tree.

In an emphatic 51-0 win at a windy Ballafletcher, Didsbury skipper Olivia Ball led the charge with a try in the first minute and, for much of the first half, Vagas were on the back foot.

Further tries followed from Jo Devine, Zoe Ford, Miguela Kerins and Lyndsay Connor.

Sian McGuinness’ boot was also knocking over conversions and by the break Didsbury led 36-0.

Vagas tightened things up in the second half, although Ruth Dell, Connor and Devine all ran in additional tries to make the game absolutely safe.
