Later in the day, best friend of Peter Kennaugh and Island resident Ben Swift also became a World Champion when he took the honours in the Men's 15 kilometre Scratch Race.
He held off a late surge from South Africa's Nolan Hoffman to cross the line first after a dramatic 60 lap race around the velodrome in Melbourne.
