Farnworth and Drewry take victories in challenging tournament
The Isle of Man men's tennis squad put in some positive displays during this year's Winter County Cup event in England.
Competing in Group 6A the Manx side were part of a smaller three-team group which included Wiltshire and Cornwall for the tournament held from 25-26 November in Aldershot.
In the singles matches on day one, Orry Farnworth grabbed a 7-6 6-1 win which would be the only victory of the day over Wiltshire who would lead the singles contest between the two counties 5-1.
Later in the same day, the Manx side faced Cornwall for the singles contests with Cornwall taking a 4-2 lead - Farnworth was in winning form again during the round (6-4,6-3) whilst Sean Drewry beat Cornwall no.1 Jake Horton 6-1 6-2.
The Sunday (26 November) saw focus turn to doubles matches with the Isle of Man back up against Wiltshire with the latter winning two out of three doubles clashes to win the contest between the two teams 7-2 overall - the only doubles win for the Island outfit came courtesy of Drewry and Farnworth.
The pairing of Farnworth and Drewry reaped rewards again later on with a 6-0 6-2 win during the remaining games with Cornwall with only a narrow 3-6 4-6 defeat for the Isle of Man's Adam Pyatt-Coppell and Jack Hedges up against their opposition - Cornwall went on to win 6-3 overall.
