Toseland the guest at Sports Awards

Former double World Superbike Champion James Toseland is to be the guest of honour at this year's Isle of Man Bank Sports Awards gala ceremony at the Villa Marina on Thursday, March 29.

The 31 year-old lives on the Isle of Man but is originally from Doncaster.

Aside from motorcycling, Toseland is also know as an accomplished pianist and recently announced his engagement to international singing star Katie Melua.

Toseland became the youngest-ever World Superbike Champion when riding for Ducati in 2004 - his second title came in 2007 when he rode for the HANNspree Ten Kate Team.

He moved up to the elite level of MotoGP the following year.

He injured his right wrist badly in a crash while testing at Aragon in Spain early last year and, despite making a comeback, was forced to announce his retirement from racing last September.

Toseland will be the first guest at the awards to have picked up a prize at the event - he won the Isle of Man Ambassador title in 2008.
