Astana team manager offers Manxman to postpone retirement
The manager of Mark Cavendish's cycling team has sparked hopes that the Manxman may return to the Tour de France for one more year.
All eyes were on the Manx Missile this week who needed just one stage win to take the crown for the most ever victories.
He currently shares the record, 34, with Belgian cycling legend Eddie Mercx.
Disaster struck during stage eight yesterday, however, when he crashed, broke his collarbone and was ruled out of what has been stated as the 38-year-old's last ever Tour before retirement.
Astana Qazaqstan Team Manager Alexander Vinokourov has told Cycling News they'd like Cavendish to postpone retirement and come back for 2024.
He says they're "ready to offer him that chance. But it’s up to him to decide.”
