Southern 100 releases statement following his death
Tributes are being paid following the announcement of the death of Manx motorsport stalwart, Jack Wood.
Mr Wood competed in the Manx Grand Prix between 1950 and 1955 in eleven races before moving to the TT in 1955, going on to take part in a further eleven races.
After becoming an active member of the Manx Motor Cycle Club, he also went on to become Clerk of the Course for the MGP and TT events.
Elsewhere, Mr Wood also took part in the first ever Southern 100 Road Races in 1955 and featured again at the meeting in 1958.
After stepping away from racing, he held the role of Deputy Clerk of the Course at Billown from 1961 to 1968 before a 21-year spell as car inspection driver on the southern course between 1969 and 1990 before his retirement.
Southern 100 Racing says it's extending its 'sincere condolences to Jack's family, close friends and other members of the road racing community that knew him.'
