29-time winner's Superbike sets best pace of the day

29-time TT winner Michael Dunlop showed some impressive late pace as he topped the timings on his BMW Superbike during the latest TT qualifying schedule this afternoon (1 June).

The Ballymoney man's pace came late in the session following some technical tweaks as he clocked 132.003mph despite having to slow at the end of his lap.

In a hotly-contested Superstock section, Manxman Conor Cummins impressed with the fastest pace of 129.835mph.

Elsewhere, the top standard of 124.736mph in the Supersport class was set by Dean Harrison whilst the brief Supertwin session saw Paul Jordan (118.584mph) go quickest.

Reigning Sidecar TT champions Ryan and Callum Crowe, meanwhile, continued their strong pace at the front of the three-wheeled class, setting the benchmark at 119.337mph from a standing start.

Following rainfall during the morning, conditions had improved considerably by the time the sidecars wound up heading out first in a rejigged running order.

Content with their leading pace after one lap the Crowe brothers returned to the paddock, with the final three-wheeled timings of the day seeing Peter Founds and Jevan Walmsley second-quickest (115.843mph) whilst completing the top three timings was Ben Birchall and Patrick Rosney (115.664mph).

The sidecar session was halted due to a red flag which was due to an incident at Rhencullen involving outfit No.2 of Founds and Walmsley.

Peter Founds was reported as conscious and talking with arm injuries whilst Jevan Walmsley was reported as conscious and talking with no reported injuries.

Both were taken by airmed to Noble's Hospital for further assessments.

Following that incident, more changes to the schedule were made for what became a combined Superbike, Superstock and Supersport session.

Having already been at the sharp end of the timings on his opening lap, some late mechanical tweaks from Dunlop saw him strengthen his ascendancy at the top of the board - his next nearest challengers on a Superbike were Dean Harrison (130.666mph) and Davey Todd (129.812mph)

Whilst in the Superstocks, Cummins was the competitor setting the tone at the top on his flying lap, Mike Browne also impressed managing 129.697mph from a standing start with James Hind (128.946mph) also edging up the rankings to finish third in class for the session.

In the Supersports, closest to the time of Harrison at the top were Mike Browne (124.272mph) and local man Michael Evans (123.28mph) with the large majority of that field only getting the chance to put in one lap.

Meanwhile, despite a tight window for time, a selection of Supertwin machines did manage to complete one lap of the mountain course to get some important miles in.

Jordan found himself only just clear of Adam McLean (118.257mph) whilst a further 3.353 seconds back on him was Barry Furber (117.913mph).
