Vagabonds B claim top spot in Manx Shield

An emphatic 77-7 win over neighbours Douglas B gave Vagas’ second string enough of a points difference to take top spot in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield standings.

A Tom Gascoyne hat trick in just 15 minutes gave Vagas a solid start and further scores came from Jack Moore and Steve Gawne as Vagas took a commanding 35-0 lead by half-time.

In the second half there were further tries from Ryan Windell (two), Ekong Bell, Matt Rockwell (two) and Jack Moore. Michael Oates converted all 11 tries.

Douglas picked up a late consolation try from James Stamp.

Elsewhere in the Shield, Southern Nomads narrowly defeated Ramsey B 24-18 at King Williams College.

Harry Brereton, Greg Danes and Andy Lean picked up tries for Nomads, with Ally Landels kicking a penalty and three conversions.

Ramsey hit back with tries from Mikey Craine and skipper Will Wren with two penalties and a conversion from Stevie Cleator.

Across the road at Poulsom Park, Castletown beat Emerging Nomads 29-10.

Ruan Badenhorst, Matty Craine, Conor Stephens and a penalty try, plus a penalty and three conversions from Sam Peel, gave Town the points.

Nomads picked up consolation scores from Patrick McCready and Wig Bregazzi.
