Vagabonds B ease into plate final

Ramsey B move top

Vagabonds B booked their spot in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Plate final on April 2 with a 29-12 win against Western Vikings.

Paul Nicholson and Jamie Cooke crossed for Vagas tries and, with Johnny Beckley adding a penalty and a conversion, Vagas were ahead 15-0 at the break.

Kevin Mellor snatched one back for Vikings early in the second half which Ryan Burke converted to reduce the arrears to 15-7.

Former Viking Mark Venables moved Vagas further ahead with a try, also converted by Beckley, before Harry Goodwin struck for Vikings in cup tie fashion.

Bryan Kennaugh’s late score ended the Vikings’ fightback.

Their opponents in next month’s plate final, Ramsey B, now top the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.

In a ‘double header’ fixture worth six championship points, Ramsey B beat Emerging Nomads 17-14 at King William’s College.

Chris Clague was the Ramsey hero with two tries and there was also a try from number eight Nathan Thompson and a conversion from Ben Harding.

Josh Samuels and Orry Watterson both score tries for Nomads with Furo Davies adding two conversions.

Southern Nomads are in second place but have a game in hand from which a draw or better will give them the title.

Vagabonds won 36-17 on the road against the bottom side Hull in Womens NC North Division 1 in the penultimate game of their season.

The win puts them up to fourth place in the standings.
