
Vagabonds got their South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One campaign off to a flying start with 21-15 home win against Ormskirk.
The visitors took the lead in the very first minute when second row Dan Hitchcock stormed through some indifferent tackling. Barry Whalley converted and Ormskirk were 7-0 to the good.
Vagas hit back to within a point with two Jonny Beckley penalties before Ormskirk turned the screw again with a Kieran Mahood try before Beckley snatched one back for Vagas to leave it 12-11 at half-time.
Barry Whalley kicked a second half penalty for Ormskirk but tries from Chris Neale and Jamie Cooke snatched the game for Vagabonds.
