Gas billing change 'more transparent'

Manx Gas says its new billing system will make budgeting across the year easier, for the company and its customers.

Standing charges for central heating will go up from January 2016, to cover more of the firm's operating costs.

But that rise will be offset by a drop in the price-per-unit of gas.

Manx Gas says the change will separate the cost of supplying gas from the cost of the fuel itself.

Customers will be placed in different bands, according to annual consumption of gas.

The current standing charge of 15.7 pence per day will rise to more than 40p per day for those in lower bands, and to just over £2 per day for heavier users.

Manx Gas managing director Tony Nicholls says bills will more accurately reflect the volume of gas actually used.
