Women Today listen again: live from the Manx Museum 'Mann at War' gallery

Continuing our programmes commemorating Remembrance, we broadcast live from the Manx Museum this afternoon, specifically from the new Mann at War gallery which focuses primarily on the Isle of Man’s links and involvement in wartime, from Trafalgar, through to today.

We spoke with Curator of Social History Matthew Richardson about some of the fascinating objects and stories within the gallery; we were also joined by John Galt, (picture above, along with Tom Quirk) former petty officer telegraphist, who shared his memories of training with the navy at Howstrake and working on aircraft carriers around the world. We also heard from Reverand Daniel Richards about an upcoming service at Braddan Church which will commemorate WW1; the event, on Nov 14th, will have readings, poems and stories pertaining to the war along with music from the Regal Singers and Manx Concert Brass - and we heard some of the poems on the programme too, as read by Stephanie Gray

We also heard from Caroline MacDonald, who has been researching some of the headstones in Braddan Cemetery and told us of one such soldier; she also revealed her family connection as her father, Dr Guy Pantin, served as the Medical Officer under Montgomery in the North African campaign.

If you missed any part of today's programme, you can listen again at this link for the next 7 days.  Also do check our Facebook page for photos, videos and more from the broadcast.

Tomorrow we'll be joined on the Conister Rock by Simeon Wood - join us from 2pm!
