MANX NEWSCAST:

  • Residents 'must make voices heard' on new Ramsey Harbour flood defence proposals

A Ramsey Commissioner says residents of the town must make their voices heard about the Department of Infrastructures plans for new flood defences. Next Monday (24 November) the DoI is holding drop-in sessions for people to look at the plans and provide feedback - this is taking place at the town hall during its usual opening hours. The department previously submitted plans in 2021 which could've seen the removal of 50 parking spaces as well as a concrete wall and new pavements. Juan McGuinness says the town is under 'threat' of tidal flooding and believes that the defences need to be in place to protect homes and businesses on the quayside.Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper has been speaking to him.

AGENDA:

  • Agenda 17.11.25 - Bishop’s vote abolition Bill passes through LegCo

The Bishop’s vote moved a step closer to extinction last Tuesday when the Bill which seeks to abolish it finished its passage through the Legislative Council. The Bill had been paused for some time while a LegCo committee considered the impact of this measure but despite setting out clearly that the loss of the Bishop’s vote would most likely result in the loss of a Bishop of Sodor and Mann LegCo supported Key’s resolve to remove what many see as an undemocratic vote. Two of the more prominent speakers in the debate Gary Clueit and Paul Craine explain the process and the two sides of the debate on Agenda. With the Bishop’s vote all but gone will Keys shift their attention to the undemocratic Legislative Council next?

PERSPECTIVE:

  • Perspective 16.11.25 - is Tynwald trying to have its cake and eat it on its minimum wage decision?

In October Tynwald members agreed to a slightly watered down proposal to tie the minimum wage to the living wage. This led to the Local Economy Forum holding a lively meeting which, while highly critical of government and Tynwald’s decision, suggested a change to tax allowances and credits which would see the lowest paid taking home slightly more money and government and the private sector sharing the burden. Lawrie Hooper spoke against the Tynwald compromise and Chris Robertshaw led the private sector charge against. They talk to Perspective. A lively exchange to whet your appetite for Sunday dinner with a surprising outcome for pudding.
