More Information (Manx Radio is not responsible for external websites)
Wander the ancient peat roads around Beinn-y-Phott, looking at the historical and cultural value of peatlands as well as the restoration work undertaken.
Peatlands are a vital part of our landscape. Containing information about our prehistoric past, they are also a vital carbon store and flood defence that is home to rare species. Meet the DEFA officers in charge of making sure that our peatlands continue to be a functioning part of our island and let them tell you about their fascinating story.
This walk will take in the summit of Beinn-y-Phott and will include very uneven ground.
Participants will need sturdy footwear, ideally walking boots, warm and waterproof clothing, a drink and a snack. Unfortunately dogs are not permitted as this is a sensitive time of year for lambing and ground nesting birds.
Parking will be at the Brandywell Road layby, on the Beinn-y-Phott Road, just off the A18 mountain road. Grid reference: SC389858, https://maps.app.goo.gl/X92efXyf5n9wC9vC9 , What3Words: ///altitudes.darkroom.coupon
