A poetry competition for those going into school years 5 and 6.
The 15 winning poems will form a trail through Douglas City Centre from the Autumn half term.

Children’s Poetry Trail 2024
This is a poetry competition for pupils in years 5 and 6 from September. Poems should fit easily on an A4 page, any theme or style, enter up to 3 poems.
Prizes: 15 first prizes where the poem is designed onto an A4 poster and are displayed in café windows, shop windows or libraries. These 15 posters form a Trail through Douglas, and a Trail Guide will show where each poster is. Winners will get an A3 poster of their poem to keep.
There will be 15 highly commended prizes of an A4 page with their poem framed with a border.
Every poet will get a certificate for taking part.
The closing date for entries is 20th September. There is no entry fee but a parent or guardian needs to sign the entry form.
Some schools have had a poetry workshop about the Trail. There are two Poetry workshops in the Family Library for children aged 9-11 years old, however siblings can take part too. On August 17th 10.30-12.30pm Xander, a previous Junior Manx Bard, will read his poems out.
Nehall, the Junior Manx Bard, will read some of his poems out on Saturday 31st August from 10.30am. After poets from the IOM Poetry Society will help those there to write a poem.
There is a Launch afternoon in the Family Library on the 19th October, from 2pm, when all the highly commended winners will receive their laminated poem, the first-prize winners will receive an A3 poster of their poem, and all children will receive a certificate of participation.
The Trail starts at the beginning of school autumn half term and runs for 4 weeks.
A booklet of all poems will be produced which will be for sale.
