Walk in their footsteps 100 years on - Last of the Internees leave Knockaloe
Thursday, October 10th
On the morning of 10 October 1919, the very last internees marched from Knockaloe Internment Camp under escort. On the morning of 10 October 2019, this FREE event retraces their steps, with a guided walk along the road from Knockaloe to Peel under the escort of our very own RDC guard.
After a comfort/refreshment break in Peel, we shall walk back to Patrick Village along the old Camp Railway line, pausing at the graves of the internees who remain in our graveyard, and return to the Visitor Centre where we shall raise a toast to the tens of thousands of men interned behind barbed wire during WW1. Each leg of the walk takes around 30 minutes with a break of around 20-30 minutes at Peel. Complimentary champagne and nibbles available at the Visitor Centre upon our return.
