Tennis star, Billy Harris and trials sensation, Kaytlyn Adshead scooped Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year titles respectively

Tennis star Billy Harris and trials sensation Kaytlyn Adshead have scooped the coveted Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year titles respectively at the 2025 Isle of Man Sports Awards.

They were among 14 winners honoured at a ceremony at the Villa Marina in Douglas, celebrating the successes and achievements of the Manx sporting community over the past year.

Thirty-one-year-old Harris claimed the Sportsman of the Year award after an impressive season, which included his first victory at Wimbledon and his maiden ATP Challenger Tour title.

Sportswoman of the Year

Adshead, the first Manx woman to secure a European motorcycle trials title and who finished fourth in last year’s FIM Women’s Trial World Championship, says it is a great honour to receive the award:

Lifetime Achievement Award

Les Callow, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for more than five decades of involvement in local squash, says being recognised is the “pinnacle” of 50 years in the sport:

"I've seen the sport when it was really on its knees because it had more older players and I've seen it change to a thriving one now."

Disability Sportsperson of the Year

After a stellar year in powerlifting and para powerlifting, Alfie Bezance secured the Disability Sportsperson of the Year title.

He says the award means a great deal to him:

Sports Administrator of the Year

This award went to Gary Jakeman and Jill Gillings for their behind-the-scenes work on the Island Games.

Speaking after receiving it, Jill told Manx Radio that they work well together as a team:

"You work and do all these things but to have the nomination and to win this award, is very special."

Achievement on the Isle of Man

Albert Johnson was recognised for his athletics fundraiser, which raised over £10,000 last year.

The Kirk Michael resident completed 31 marathons in 31 days.

"This means the world to me....I am so grateful for this. If I die tomorrow, I'll die a happy man."

He spoke to Chanelle Sukhoo shortly after getting the award:

Sports Team of the Year

Among the other winners, Jurby brothers Ryan and Callum Crowe claimed the Sports Team of the Year title for a second year running.

It follows a season in which they won both sidecar races at the Isle of Man TT and Southern 100 Road Races, setting outright lap records at both events in the process.

The duo says they are over the moon and hope 2026 will be an even better year for them:

Endurance athlete, Christa Cain was awarded the Veteran Sportsperson of the Year honour.

Sports Coach of the Year

Orran Smith was named Sports Coach of the Year.

He says seeing his athletes succeed is the "best feeling:"

Sports Leader of the Year

Caitlyn Hampson was named Sports Leader of the Year for her work in the field:

"It means everything. I mean I've been working coaching for nearly half my life."

Leonie Cooil Courage and Inspiration Award

Horse rider Chantelle Limerick was the recipient of the latest Leonie Cooil Courage and Inspiration Award.

She says the support from her family, friends, and Riding for the Disabled has been incredible, and winning the award in her category feels great.
