Norman McBride marks 40 years with the Civil Defence

He's the organisation's longest serving volunteer in the British Isles.

The Isle of Man boasts the Civil Defence's longest-serving volunteer in the British Isles.

Norman McBride is celebrating his 40th year with the response team, having initially joined to fill his time after leaving the Army.

Still a vital member, Norman is trained in flood response, hill search and rescue, 4x4 driving, and handling various emergency equipment.

His contributions span significant Island events over four decades, including the ‘big snow’ of 2013 , missing people searches and multiple aircraft crashes.

Justice and Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson MHK commends Mr McBride's remarkable commitment to volunteering, describing it as an incredible achievement.

He will be honoured for his long service at a ceremony later this year, and this week was one of those who met Queen Camilla at Government House.
