Gilli Cowley awarded the British Empire Medal
One of the Island's recipients of a New Year Honour from the King says recognition was never a motivation for her charity work.
Gilli Cowley was awarded the British Empire Medal for her voluntary services to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
She's been chair of the Douglas Lifeboat Guild since 2005, which has raised over £1 million under her leadership.
Gilli says she didn't know just how much she'd raised for the charity:
Howard Parkin and Pat Costain were also recognised in the New Year Honours, each being made an MBE.
