Dr Greg B. Davies, Head of Behavioural and Quantitative Finance at Barclays Wealth & Investment Management, recently made a visit to the Island to address the Isle of Man Association of Corporate Service Providers (ACSP).
Based at Barclays Head Office in Canary Wharf, London, Dr Davies leads a global team of behavioural and quantitative finance specialists and is responsible for the design and global implementation of Barclays Investment Philosophy.
Barclays has been at the forefront of introducing behavioural finance into mainstream operations. In 2006 it was the first bank to introduce a dedicated team to the subject, which now forms an integral part of the service offered to clients.
Behavioural finance uses knowledge of psychology to improve understanding of how individual investors make financial decisions and how these decisions cause markets to behave in aggregate.
Even though it's a lot more popular than it was a decade ago, it is still considered a niche area within the financial services world.
Dr Davies shared with the audience some of the findings of his team’s work in the field.
