Aer Arran to drop London City route

The Island is to lose its London City air service.

That is a big blow, in particular to the business community and the Island's prestige as a top offshore jurisdiction.

The service, operated by Aer Arran, will run its last flight on the evening of Tuesday, April 10.

The business community, specifically the finance sector, has enjoyed the convenience of an airport which is no more than 20 minutes away from London City centre.

Aer Arran has 14 flight deck and cabin crew based here.

They will be offered the chance to move to other Aer Arran bases, although possibly off-Island.

Anyone who has booked after April 10 is being offered a full refund and will be contacted by the airline.

The reason for the move? According to the company, the evolving new business model based on providing connectivity and frequency on flights between the UK and Ireland and onwards to the USA.

The firm says the Isle of Man is not a strategic fit with this.
